September felt like a very productive knitting month, with a little bit of everything on the needles: socks, my first sweater, a quick soap sock for a good cause and the beginnings of Audrey’s Halloween costume.
It was also a good reading month, with several books finished, one abandoned when it just wasn’t working for me, and a few new favorites added to my reading rotation.
Here’s everything I was knitting, reading and loving in September.
What I Knit in September
My First Sweater
My first sweater continued to make some serious progress this month.
I finished sleeve #1 and immediately cast on sleeve #2. By the end of September, I had made it through 2 of the 15 required six-round decrease repeats on the second sleeve.
It’s getting close enough to the finish line that I can actually start imagining wearing it, which is exciting.
My Bible Sweater
The Bible Sweater is a knitted cover for my Bible.
It’s been a fun little project to have alongside the larger sweater because it gives me something different to work on when I want a break from sleeve decreases.
Bangle Bracelet
I also finished a bangle bracelet in September.
It was a small, satisfying project and another fun finish to add to the month’s knitting accomplishments.
Mermaid Scales Shortie Socks
I finished my Mermaid Scales Shortie Socks in September, adding another pair to one of my daughter’s growing sock collection.
Shortie socks continue to be such satisfying projects because they give me all the fun of knitting socks without quite as much time commitment.
A Soap Sock for a Good Cause
One of my quickest projects this month was a soap sock for a Girl Scout event.
I cast it on, worked through the 30 rounds and finished it in time to use as my daughter’s entry fee for the event. It was a tiny project, but exactly the kind of small knitting project that is fun to squeeze in between bigger WIPs.
Part of Audrey’s Halloween Costume
I also started knitting arm warmers for Audrey’s Halloween costume.
She’s dressing as Charlotte from Five Nights at Freddy’s, so naturally that called for some handmade accessories.
By the end of September, I was nearly finished with arm warmer #1. Once I switched needle sizes, I could focus on getting arm warmer #2 to the finish line.
What I Read in September
September was a pretty good reading month.
I finished:
I also started The Someday Garden, but ultimately decided it wasn’t for me and abandoned it. There is something very freeing about admitting that a book isn’t working and moving on.
I am currently listening to The Handmaid’s Tale (not for the first time, it’s either the second or third time) and reading The Cat Who Saw Red on my iPad.
Now let’s see what October brings.
