September Knitting & Reading Roundup
I love words + pictures so much that this is too long to read in an email. Read the entire article in the app or online at coastalknitsandpurls.com.
September brought slightly cooler temps to Florida (+ a ton of rain) and I started thinking about cooler-weather knits. At the beginning of the year, I set a goal to knit my first sweater, so the main thing I focused on this month is kicking off that project. I cast on and started to practice with some leftover DK yarn I had from sock knitting. I cast on, ripped out and cast on again many times before I got it right.
Read on to see what else I was up to knitting + reading in September.

August Knitting & Reading Roundup
The Shortie Sock Summer KAL ended August 1, and my 50th birthday was August 3. August 11, my kiddos returned to school + I celebrated 100 days of Bible study. The last few days of August, I plotted + planned my 1st sweater! I’ve mostly been back and forth on whether I want to knit with fingering-weight or DK yarn, a baby sweater or a sweater for myself.

Halloween isn’t just for candy and costumes. It’s the perfect time to spread a little surprise and delight among your fellow knitters! This year, I’m adding a crafty twist to the tradition of Booing with Boo Your Fellow Knitters.
6 Knitting Project Bag Finds of the Week
Every knitter knows the right project bag is a trusted sidekick. Whether you’re knitting at the beach, waiting at the doctor’s office, or curled up on the couch, the perfect bag keeps your yarn tidy, your notions within reach, and your project safe from curious cats (or the Florida breeze).
4 Quick Projects to Ease Into Fall
September is full of new routines — back-to-school (even though Florida kids start back in August), fall sports and the start of cooler weather (It does actually cool off just a bit here in Florida. At least when you compare it to the sweltering heat of August.)
My Journey to Knitting My First Sweater
Every knitter has that one milestone project they dream about tackling, and for me, it’s always been a sweater. I’ve knit plenty of blankets, socks, hats, and dishcloths but the idea of knitting an actual sweater felt like stepping into a whole new level of knitting confidence. At the beginning of this year, I decided it was time to cast on my very firs…
Coastal-Inspired Fall Color Palettes for Knitters
Fall doesn’t have to mean only pumpkins, leaves, and spice tones — especially if you live by the coast. This year, why not swap traditional autumn hues for a coastal-inspired palette? Think driftwood, stormy gray, sea glass green, and sunrise orange
7 Knitting Stitch Marker Finds of the Week
One of my favorite things about knitting (besides the yarn, of course!) is collecting stitch markers. They’re small, practical tools — but they can also be tiny bursts of joy that make every project feel special. Whether you’re counting rows on a sweater, tracking lace repeats, or just trying to stay organized, the right stitch marker can bring a smile …
Sign Up to Participate in Socktober 🧦
Socktober is almost here! Every October, knitters from around the world come together to make socks to those in need. Socks are one of the most requested but least donated items at shelters, which makes Socktober the perfect way to put your knitting skills and generosity to work.
Cozy Sock Patterns to Kick Off Socktober
October is almost here, and you know what that means — it’s time for Socktober! A whole month dedicated to casting on socks, finishing lingering WIPs, and trying new patterns that keep our toes toasty. To help you get inspired, I’ve rounded up a mix of
Fellow Florida knitter (and crocheter and sewing and all the other crafts) here!! This weather has certainly brought me out of my summer seasons depression!
