[REPOST] 5 of My Favorite Knitting Newsletters on Substack
Originally posted March 9, 2025
With everything ramping up for the holiday season, time is at a premium. Instead of writing a brand new post, I’m sharing my hands-down most popular post.
Enjoy!
After discovering Substack, I started surrounding myself with fellow knitters, fiber lovers, fresh knitting inspiration, expert tips, book lovers and community stories — all delivered straight to my inbox. Whether you’re looking for in-depth tutorials, thoughtful essays on knitting culture, or just some cozy project inspiration, Substack has something for every knitter.
Here’s a look at some of my favorite knitting newsletters on Substack and why they’re worth subscribing to.
Why Knitting Newsletters?
Knitting newsletters offer a more personal, long-form way to connect with the knitting world. Unlike social media, where content can get lost in the scroll, newsletters provide:
Curated Content: You can dive deep into techniques, trends, and stories without worrying about algorithms.
Regular Inspiration: Whether weekly or monthly, newsletters keep you motivated and engaged.
Community Connection: Many newsletters foster discussion through comments, subscriber Q&As, and even virtual knitalongs.
5 Must-Read Knitting Newsletters on Substack
1. Everyday Knitter
It’s Louise Tilbrook’s little place to show up and chat on the Internet.
I follow Louise on social and subscribe to her newsletter. She chats about knitting and her life (She recently adopted a kitty.). What I love most about Louise is that she is real. She shows up unapologetically as herself. Something else I love is that she’s devoted to fuss-free patterns. I love a good vanilla pattern!
Paid subscribers have access to a monthly book club, accountability and chat threads for knitting-related chat and occasionally holds physical letter or yarn swaps of either letters or yarn.
2. Knitting Between the Lines
The musings of a girl surviving her twenties one stitch and book at a time.
As an avid knitter and reader, I can relate to the girl behind Knitting Between the Lines. Of course, I’m almost 3x a twenty-something but I can still relate. She pairs books with themed knitting (I do this too!). She talks about what knitting has taught her (I write about this too!). She talks about slowing down (This is my mantra for 2025: To enjoy the knitting journey rather than the destination!).
3. The Knitting Explorer
Your weekly dose of knitting project updates.
The Knitting Explorer takes you along on knitting journeys, updating you on projects and knitting experiences. I love to follow along to see other knitters’ progress, so I am always excited when an update lands in my inbox.
4. Fat Turkey Farm
The spinning, knitting, weaving, circular sock knitting and adventures on a sheep farm.
This newsletter explores the connection between knitting and mindfulness (with a few other things sprinkled in) on a sheep farm. First, the farm is in Wyoming, which we absolutely adored spending time camping in our RV during the pandemic. I got hooked in right away reading her posts! I love reading updates on the animals as much as I do her knitting projects and cooking/baking adventures.
5. A Good Yarn
The right place for people who love yarn and books.
Sandi Rosner is a hand knitting designer, technical editor, writer and teacher. She’s also a reader with eclectic tastes. She not only shares knitting projects, patterns, books and other knitting-related goodies, she is also a motivator. She encouraged me to knit my first sweater (which is on my list of things to accomplish in 2025).
Knitting newsletters on Substack offer a refreshing way to engage with the fiber community — without social media distractions. Whether you’re looking for patterns, inspiration, or a deeper connection, there’s a newsletter for you.
