Knitting, Reading & Products I Love This Week Ending July 5
Before I get into this week’s projects, I have to share some big knitting news. After knitting my socks inside out for nearly six years, I decided it was finally time to see what all the fuss was about and started knitting them right side out. It definitely felt strange at first, like writing with my non-dominant hand, but after a few rounds everything clicked. I never thought I’d switch after so many years, but here we are! It’ll be interesting to see if this becomes my new normal or if I eventually go back to my inside-out ways.
There are some weeks when it feels like every project is inching forward at the same pace, and then there are weeks like this one where finished objects suddenly start appearing. It was a satisfying stretch of knitting with a pair of socks off the needles and several long-term projects making noticeable progress.
Here’s everything I’ve been working on lately.
🧶 Knitting
Finished: Banana Socks 🍌
I’m so happy to finally have these off the needles! I knit my Banana Socks using an unknown yarn and the Fire & Fiber Banana Socks pattern on US 1 (2.25 mm) bamboo 9” circular needles.
These were such a fun, cheerful knit. There’s something especially satisfying about finishing a pair of socks because they immediately become wearable instead of waiting in the “needs one more sleeve.”
In Progress: Kate’s Hurricane Blanket
This cozy project continues to grow. I’m done with the first cake of yarn and getting ready to add the third and final cake into the blanket.
Yarn: Hobbii Hurricane
Colorway: Pink Coral
Needles: ChiaoGoo Red Twist Circulars, US 6
The soft color transitions in this yarn have been so relaxing to knit. It’s one of those projects that’s perfect for evenings when I want something repetitive and comforting.
Mermaid Scales Shortie Socks
Progress is definitely happening here! I’m officially at the gusset decreases.
Yarn: Emma’s Yarn Practically Perfect Sock
Colorway: July
Needles: ChiaoGoo 9” Circulars, US 1
Ribbed Socks
This pair continues to travel with me everywhere.
Yarn Colorway: Golden Hour
Simple ribbing makes for such enjoyable mindless knitting, and I’m loving how the colorway is knitting up.
Bible Sweater
I also spent some time working on my Bible Sweater. It’s one of those projects that rewards consistency, and while I don’t have a dramatic milestone to report this week, every knitting session gets me a little closer to having a beautiful handmade sweater in my wardrobe. It’s been a lovely change of pace from all the sock knitting.📚 What I’ve Been Reading
First Sweater Progress 🧶
I also spent some time working on the first sleeve of my very first sweater, and every round makes it feel a little more real. Sweaters can definitely feel intimidating, but breaking them into smaller milestones has made the process so much more enjoyable. Watching the sleeve grow has been a great reminder that even the biggest knitting projects are finished one stitch at a time, and I’m getting more excited to wear my first handmade sweater with every knitting session.
Finished
Both books kept me turning pages for completely different reasons, and it’s always fun when back-to-back reads each bring something unique to the experience.
Currently Reading
I’m currently reading The Midnight Train, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the story goes.
💛 Products I’m Loving
These are a few things I’ve been reaching for lately.
Counter Glow First
My skin has been loving Counter Glow First Serum Primer. It gives my complexion a healthy, natural-looking glow without feeling heavy, making it perfect for Florida’s warm weather. It’s become one of those products I reach for almost every day.
ChiaoGoo 9” Circular Needles
If you’ve been around here for a while, this recommendation won’t surprise you. My ChiaoGoo 9” circulars remain my favorite way to knit socks. The smooth joins, flexible cable and sharp tips make even long stretches of stockinette enjoyable.
The beautiful self-striping gradients continue to impress me. Watching the colors slowly shift keeps every row interesting, making blanket knitting feel surprisingly addictive.
That’s this week’s knitting and reading update! It feels great to have a couple of finished objects while still making steady progress on my larger projects. As always, I’d love to hear what’s currently on your needles and what’s at the top of your reading stack. Happy knitting! 🩷🧦📖
